Halp?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Oh goodness! &lt;3 Flattery!<\/p>\n<p>Yeah, research into East Asia is difficult because of the language barrier &#8211; and that\u2019s just the beginning. \u00a0Japan should be a little easier than China, though.<\/p>\n<p>So with my initial Google searching, I found <a href=\"http:\/\/www.braidershand.com\/bhbooktada.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">this website<\/a> with a variety of publications written in both Japanese and English, which may be helpful.<\/p>\n<p>My next step would be to look at museum collections.<\/p>\n<p>The Tokyo National Museum has a 14th century pouch that has braided cord: [<a href=\"http:\/\/www.emuseum.jp\/detail\/101134\/006\/002?x=-10&amp;y=-10&amp;s=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Link<\/a>].<\/p>\n<p>The Portland Art Museum had (at one point) an exhibit on Samurai that featured some kumihimo. They cite a book, but also feel free to reach out to the curators for more information: [<a href=\"http:\/\/www.rosalieneilson.com\/portland_art_museum\/kumihimo-braids-samurai-exhibit.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Link<\/a>]\n<p>Don\u2019t limit yourself to the search term\u00a0\u201ckumihimo.\u201d It\u2019s translated most often as\u00a0\u201cbraided cord\u201d so don\u2019t be afraid of using that term, especially in western museum collections.<\/p>\n<p>Lastly, connect with other SCAdians who do Japanese crafts.
